Anyone that’s spent any amount of time playing Helldivers 2 recently will already know that the thing the game needs right now isn’t new features, its fixes. A massive patch dropped last month bringing in over 200 bug fixes (you know, the technological kind of bugs), as part of the dev team’s promise to get the game in running order again. That promise even extends to holding off on adding new stuff for the time being. When it comes to new stuff, however, one thing you shouldn’t expect for the time being is cross progression.
As spotted by GamesRadar, when asked by a member of the official Helldivers Discord server if there were any updates on cross progression, community manager Katherine Baskin had this to say: “We have no plans to add cross progression currently.” That obviously kind of says it all, yet all hope on the feature is not necessarily lost.
Later on, responding to similar questions regarding cross progression, CEO Shams Jorjani explained, “[for what it’s worth] we’d love to add cross platform progression, but other things take priority.” There doesn’t appear to be what those other things are, but we can probably assume that those aforementioned bug fixes are a part of that. Not to mention the fact that live service games are a tricky thing to balance, especially considering they essentially facilitate entire economies. Doesn’t sound like an easy thing to translate across platforms.
When we may see such a thing, I can’t tell you, it sounds like a while away. So, if it’s that much of a problem for you, perhaps you can try out one of the million other live service games that are out there. You’re spoiled for choice!
