After the guy who kills his RTX 5090 FE trying to watercool it, now it’s time for the guy who successfully modifies his RTX 5080 FE. Indeed, comradelochenko shows us the work he’s done on his card. He successfully modified the color of his card by turning the heatsink white. The rendering is clean, but you either like it or you don’t.
RTX 5080 FE: a redditor turns his card white!
The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 FE are quite complicated to disassemble, which is why we don’t recommend it. The board’s multi-PCB structure can be tricky to manage, especially if you’re not used to it. One broken pin and you’re in the garbage can, as we saw this morning. On the other hand, our Redditor du jour knows what he’s doing (he’s an engineer in the field), which is why he set about whitewashing his board. And to do this, the heatsink has to be completely dismantled to apply paint to its various components. In this case, to ensure that the paint will last over time, he opts for Duracoat.
In the end, the result is rather clean, with the paint correctly applied to the board. The user has taken advantage of his experience as a painter of tabletop miniatures (Warhammer type). He therefore has some experience of airbrush painting.
However, during the process, he forgot to reconnect the white diode of the GeForce RTX logo… We’re guessing that the card will remain as is, and won’t be reassembled just for the sake of a little light.
Of course, should you feel the urge to undertake this type of modification, you should be aware that most of the time, the warranty is void. Yes, manufacturers don’t take responsibility for modified equipment. The only solution is to opt for a coating that can be easily removed.
