In fact, no RX 9070 XT 32GB!

Published:

We recently learned that rumours were circulating about a VRAM-shielded RX 9000. Indeed, via the ChipHell forum, rumours were circulating that AMD might well be offering a 32GB RX 9070 XT. Unfortunately, AMD has officially taken a position on these allegations: they’re fake.

No RX 9070 XT 32GB!

Unluckily (or perhaps not), Frank Azor, AMD’s chief architect for gaming solutions and marketing, has indicated that there will be no such capacity on this card. On the other hand, as we pointed out, apart from very specific applications such as AI, 32GB on a model of this calibre wouldn’t be of much use. In fact, as this is a gaming card, there are no games yet capable of saturating 32 GB of VRAM… Even if needs are increasing, that’s undeniable.

Then there’s the question of price. Just going from an RX 7600 (8GB) to an RX 7600 XT (16GB) costs €100. So going from 16 to 32 GB… The price would have been hard to justify, given the performance offered by the card compared with NVIDIA’s offering.

However, while the consumer segment will not see a 32GB RX 9000, this capacity is not incongruous. AMD is offering a series of RADEON Pro cards in its catalogue, based on the consumer versions, which benefit from double the memory capacity. On top of this, driver support is also different, providing more optimisation for professional software. So it’s not impossible that AMD will release a hypothetical RADEON Pro W9070 with 32GB of VRAM.
